  1. GNU Shogi 1.1—1.10E English patch
  2.  
  3. For those who don’t read Japanese (or Chinese), learning
  4. the pieces can be an obstacle to learning Shogi. New
  5. players should be able to concentrate on learning Shogi
  6. strategy, rather than learning to recognize the pieces.
  7.  
  8. The simplest solution is to play with a gaijin set, with
  9. the English names marked on the pieces—(K)ing, (G)old,
  10. (S)ilver, k(N)ight, (L)ance, (P)awn, (R)ook, (B)ishop,
  11. with promoted pieces marked +.
  12.  
  13. *Observant people will notice that the letters magically 
  14. retain their orientation when the pieces are rotated. I 
  15. thought this would be easier to use than a more realistic
  16. set. If you disagree, either change the icons yourself or 
  17. write to me and I’ll make you a new set.

  19. This patch will create such a set for GNU Shogi 1.1—
  20. Mac 1.10E. The resources are included in this text file
  21. (there is also a slightly more detailed set of instructions
  22. in the TEXT/styl resource pair 4096).

  24. Just open this file and (a copy of) the GNU Shogi
  25. application in ResEdit, select all resources from this 
  26. file, copy them, paste them into the application, save it, 
  27. and you're done.

  29. Feel free to distribute this patch at will, in any form, as
  30. long as all resources are included. Distributing the patched
  31. application may violate the license conditions of the
  32. application; if not, feel free to do so.
